Introduction
Jessica Dumas, a passionate podcaster, speaker, and coach, empowers Indigenous women to step into their power and embrace confidence in their lives. We connected through her podcast, where we found common ground in our mission to uplift women. This led to a unique opportunity: a photoshoot to update her headshots and allow her to experience my approach to portrait photography.
Behind the Scenes: A Creative Collaboration
Although Jessica had past experience with photoshoots, she was unsure of what to expect this time. Our wardrobe consultation was a key part of setting the tone. I insisted on incorporating a flowy dress into her outfits to highlight her ethereal and whimsical side—something she wasn’t expecting.
We had the incredible beauty team of Murel, who did Jessica's makeup, and Jeremy, who styled her hair. They truly elevated the experience, and Jessica was thrilled with the results, which set the stage for an unforgettable photoshoot.
The Photoshoot
We took our time creating various looks: professional headshots, seated poses, standing shots, and dynamic "action" poses like Jessica at her computer or with a podcast mic. But the real magic happened when Jessica tried on the dress. She had admired it in a display case for a long time but couldn't justify the price. For this shoot, she decided to treat herself.
When she wore the dress, I saw her eyes light up, and I encouraged her to twirl and have fun with it. The moment was pure magic, and after reviewing the photos together, Jessica teared up. She said, “Emmeline, I didn’t get it before, but now I get it. Your connection is what makes these photos magical. This entire experience.”
She revealed that the photos were helping her heal her inner child, and the dress, in particular, symbolized that healing journey.

The Impact
Now, Jessica proudly displays these photos in her office as a reminder of her personal growth and empowerment. This session was more than just an update to her headshots—it was a transformative experience that she will carry with her in her work and her life.

Conclusion
Jessica’s story is a powerful reminder that branding photos can be more than just a business tool—they can be a form of personal healing and empowerment. It’s an honor to be part of this journey with her, and I’m so grateful to have captured these beautiful moments.
